Question: Who do you think as most important celebrity ?

- Shah Rukh Khan in an interview.

Question: Who do you think as most important celebrity ?
Shah Rukh Khan: There was a big party where stars from bollywood and cricket were invited. Suddenly, there was a big noise, all wanted to see approaching Amitabh Bachhan. Then Sachin entered the hall and Amitabh was leading the queue to get a grab of the GENIUS!!

- Navjot Singh Sidhu on TV
He can play that leg glance with a walking stick also.
- Waqar Younis
'I Will See God When I Die But Till Then I Will See Sachin'
- A banner in Sharjah
Sachin Tendulkar has often reminded me of a veteran army colonel who has many medals on his chest to show how he has conquered bowlers all over the world. I was bowling to Sachin and he hit me for two fours in a row. One from point and the other in between point and gully. That was the last two balls of the over and the over after that we (SA) took a wicket and during the group meeting i told Jonty (Rhodes) to be alert and i know a way to pin Sachin. And i delivered the first ball of my next over and it was a fuller length delevery outside offstump. And i shouted catch. To my astonishment the ball was hit to the cover boundary. Such was the brilliance of Sachin. His reflex time is the best i have ever seen. Its like 1/20th of a sec. To get his wicket better not prepare. Atleast u wont regret if he hits you for boundaries.
- Allan Donald

"Sachin cannot cheat. He is to cricket what (Mahatma) Gandhiji was to politics. It's clear discrimination. "
- NKP Salve, former Union Minister when Sachin was accused of ball tempering

On a train from Shimla to Delhi, there was a halt in one of the stations. The train stopped by for few minutes as usual. Sachin was nearing century, batting on 98. The passengers, railway officials, everyone on the train waited for Sachin to complete the century. This Genius can stop time in India!!

Master Blaster World Record of 200 runs in an ODI...

This 200 is for all Indians who supported me from last 20 years: Sachin

GWALIOR: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar dedicated his history-making unbeaten knock of 200 to the people of India. In the post-match ceremony, Tendulkar said that throughout his 20-year career, he got amazing support from his fans and the people of India. "I dedicate this ton to the people of India. I thank those who supported me and this is indeed a special moment," he said.

Tendulkar also expressed satisfaction that his body lasted 50 overs in the match that was a do-or-die game for the visiting South African team here at the Roop Singh stadium on Wednesday. "In my heart, I always feel what I am doing should be good for the team. I am always motivated to do right things for the team. Today, I was striking the ball well and I felt happy about it," he said.

On being asked when he actually felt that he could topple all the records and even become the first man to reach such a huge milestone, Tendulkar said: "I was batting on 175 in the 42nd over and that time it crossed my mind that there was a chance. When I really reached close to it, I started rotating the strike because MS (Dhoni) was striking the ball really well. It feels good that I lasted 50 overs in the middle."

Like always, Tendulkar also praised the rest of his teammates, who partnered with him in the match. "Yusuf (Pathan), Dinesh (Karthik) and MS played crucial knocks and that helped us reach such a huge score. Earlier, a target of 340 to 350 was there in my mind, but the way Yusuf and MS started hitting the ball, it changed the momentum completely," Tendulkar said.

South African skipper Jacques Kallis also hailed Tendulkar for using the home conditions well, while Dhoni said: "He carried his innings through and later on in the innings, used the pace of the ball very well." The Gwalior cricket officials decided to dedicate a stand in the stadium in the name of Tendulkar and also gifted him a silver bat along with a cheque for Rs 10 lakh to honour his stupendous achievement.

TIME Magazine's quote on GOD....Salaam Tendulkar….

When Sachin Tendulkar travelled to Pakistan to face one of the finest bowling attacks ever assembled in cricket, Michael Schumacher was yet to race a F1 car, Lance Armstrong had never been to the Tour de France, Diego Maradona was still the captain of a world champion Argentina team, Pete Sampras had never won a Grand Slam. When Tendulkar embarked on a glorious career taming Imran and company, Roger Federer was a name unheard of; Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was an unknown kid in the Jamaican backwaters. The Berlin Wall was still intact, USSR was one big, big country, Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to "open" the Nehruvian economy. It seems while Time was having his toll on every individual on the face of this planet, he excused one man. Time stands frozen in front of Sachin Tendulkar. We have had champions, we have had legends, but we have never had a Sachin Tendulkar and we never will.

Two of these manuals, the Gramageyagdna, or Congregational, and the Aranyagana or Forest Song-Book, follow the order of the verses of part I, of the Sanhita, and two others, the Uhagana, the Uhyagana, of Part II. This part is less disjointed than part I, and is generally arranged in triplets whose first verse is often the repetition of a verse that has occurred in part I.

History of Srikakulam

Chicacole, was the former name for the city of Srikakulam that was applied by British colonial rulers. It is said that the word Chicacole came from two persian words - Chica and Khol. Chica means "a small cloth bag which can be closed by pulling athread around its neck" and Khol means 'open'. Under the Muslim rule, this place was used as a toll gate where traders were demanded by the staff in persian "Chika Khol", which means 'open the bag and pay toll'. Unaware that the meaning of these persian words were a demand to pay toll, people used to call the place as "chicacole". Which in later periods became Srikakulam. We can say that this is a kind of reverse transliteration. During Muslim rule, Srikakulam was called as Gulshanabad (Garden city). Srikakulam was headquarter of fauzdars (local governors) under muslim rule. The popular one of those fauzdars was Sher Mohammad Khan (Sher Khan). He was titled as Sher-e-Gulshanabad (Lion of Gulshanabad). Village Sher Mohammed Puram in Etcherla mandal in Srikakulam district was built by Sher Mohammed Khan and tank named Sher Khan Cheruvu was also built by him. Ruined tombs of Muslim kings are still seen in Srikakulam. Srikakulam is situated in north of Andhra Pradesh. Modern Srikakulam district was formed on August 15, 1950. Srikakulam, the northernmost district in the Andhra Pradesh, was a part of Vishakapatnam District until it was bifurcated in 1950. Srikakulam town, the headquarters of the district, is located on the both sides banks of the River Nagavali. Towards the west is Bay of Bengal and towards the South East is Vijayanagaram district and towards north is state of Orissa.
Handloom weaving is the chief cottage industry here. Srikakulam is also famous for its high quality muslin. The most important places of interest in the town include a mosque known as Jumma Masjid, built by Sher Muhammad Khan, and the temple of Kotisvaraswami. In the olden days; Chedidianasti kings, Satavahana kings and Golkonda nawabs ruled some part of this district.
This region of Andhra Pradesh was part of Kalinga region at fist and later a part of Gajapati kingdom of Orissa up to mediaeval period. It was in the 'Kutubshahi' ruling in 1687 Srikakulam (Gulshanabad) was a village and formed as fauzdhari-center for their money transactions for the areas of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Vishakhapatnam, and some parts of Orissa. The word Gulshanabad derives from Persian words Gulistan (Gulshan) that means Rose garden and abad (creation). It was developed as town in the Muslim ruling, even today you can find more than 10,000 muslims living in this town following their culture, tradition and values. Srikakulam has also been head quarter for revenue collection under Nizam state of Hyderabad since 1707. Nizams of Hyderabad assigned Gulshanabad (Srikakulam), Rajahmundry, Eluru and Mustafanagar (Kondapalli) districts to French India in 1953. French imperialists were driven out from these districts by British imperialists in 1756 during Anglo-French wars.
In 1759 the Fauzdhari ruling was ended and British ruling started, and Srikakulam town has been made part of Ganjam district and Palakonda and Rajam areas were included in Vizag district in the undivided Madras province. In 1936 the combined Madras-Orissa state was divided to Madras and Orissa and Parlakimidi Taluk was separated from combined Madras state, hence the Srikakulam was remained as Srikaklam taluk, Srikakulam town as Srikakulam municipality since 1857 under British rule. In 1947 after Indian independence, many including Potti Sriramulu fought for separate Andhra State. In 1948 many demanded for Srikakulam district as it was in combined vizag district. First 'chintada' village was proposed as district head-quarter by some central leaders. It was on 17 July 1950, a representation was given by Challa Narasimhu naidu, an eminent leader, Pullela Vemkataramanayya (P.V. Ramanayya), who was an Eminent Advocate and Public Prosecutor and also a Freedom Fighter to the then Revenue Minister H. Sitaramareddy on his visit to this area, and requested to select Srikakulam as District head-quarters at his camp office in Vizianagaram. Minister H. Sitaramareddy personally saw some places in srikakulam for selection. Then MLA of this area Garemalla Kumaraswami gave a speech on the dias of the meeting arranged on honour of the minister indicating that many important towns and capitals in the world were situated on the banks of rivers like England (Thames River), Srirangam (Kaveri), Agra (Yamuna), Kashi (Ganga), Rajamundry (Godavari), Vijayawada (Krishan) etc., and for Srikakulam it is Nagavali and convinced the minister Sitaramareddy. Along with Rokkam Ramamurty, Pullela Venkataramanyya (P.V. Ramanayya), Pasagada Suryanarayana, Baratam Venkataramanayya, Mangu Raghavarao followed Garemella Kumaraswami as group to convince and represent the request memorandum. The minister decided and selected Srikakulam as head-quarters after reaching Madras then state capital. Kimidi Kalavenkatarao ex-revenue minister in the combined Madras state had done a lot for formation of this District, who was the grandfather of present Vunukuru MLA Kalavenkatarao. On 15 August 1950, at about 4.00 p.m. the district was announced with Srikakulam town as headquarters and with three revenue divisions Palakonda, Srikakulam and Tekkali. At first, Parvatipuram revenue division was part of Srikakulam district and later transferred to Vizianagaram district. Mr. Night was the then collector in the combined Vizag Srikakulam and Mr. Janab Shek Ahammadh appointed as first district collector for separated Srikakulam. On 3 January 1951, the first District Board was formed and Rokkam Laxmi Narasimha Dora was elected as president.

Speech at Public Meeting, Chicacole

December 3, 1928
MAHATMA GANDHI

You seem to be dividing all the good things with poor Utkal(Orissa). I flattered myself with the assumption that my arrival here is one of the good things, for I was going to devote all the twenty days to seeing the skeletons of Orissa; but as you, the Andhras, are the gatekeepers of Orissa on this side, you have intercepted my march. But I am glad you have anticipated me also. After entering Andhra Desh, I have been doing my business with you and I know God will reward all those unknown people who have been co-operating with me who am a selfappointed representative of Daridranarayana. And here, too, you have been doing the same thing. Last night, several sister came and presented me with a purse. But let me tell you this is not after all my tour in Andhra. I am not going to let you alone so easily as this, nor will Deshabhakta Konda Venkatappayya let me alone, because I have toured in some parts of Ganjam. I am under promise to tour Andhra during the early part of next year, and let me hope what you are doing is only a foretaste of what you are going to do next year.
You have faith in true non-co-operation. There is the great drink evil, eating into the vitals of the labouring population. I would like you to non-co-operate with that evil without a single thought and I make a sporting proposal, viz., that those who give up drink habit should divide their savings with me on behalf of Daridranarayan. Then I see that many of you are making chimneys of your mouths by the vicious smoke habit. You, who smoke, do not know what a filthy habit it is. I saw that many of the people, when I made the appeal, threw away their cigars and cigarettes. The elderly people by indulging in this vicious habit do not know what a legacy they are leaving to their children. You know, as I know, that many children steal money in order to satisfy their curiosity to somke. I ask you therefore to non-co-operate with the smoke habit, and again divide you savings with me.
So also must Hindus non-co-operate with the devil of untouchability. I give you my assurance that devil is keeping us from God, and it is a barrier created for our own destruction.
Mahatmaji then proceeded to answer some questions handed to him by someone in the audience. The first question was: “What are the means now to be adopted by young men for the uplift of the Mother country?” Mahatmaji said:
There are many things that I can suggest, but there is one thing which is the easiest for them to do and that is khadi work. They can set apart a certain sum every month or every year to be devoted for khadi work. If they have the time, they can devote it to organizing khadi work in their own district. If they cannot do so or if they have given what is best in them. If they cannot do so or if they have not confidence enough to be able to do organizing work, they can give half an hour a day to spinning and their yarn to the All-India Spinners’ Association and become a member.
The second question dealt with the educational and other qualifications required for a public worker. Mahatmaji said:
So far as educational qualifications are concerned, besides knowing the provincial vernacular, they must know also the Rashtrabhasha1—Hindi. But the other qualifications are even far more important. They must be strictly honest and their private character must be pure. Men whose eyes are not straight and whose heart is full of animal passion are not fit for doing political work. And in my opinion, unless he believes in truth and non-violence at any cost, he has no business to be a politician.
Answering the third question, Mahatmaji said :
Whilst all our leaders are conceiving and cooking all kinds of schemes, we, the rank and file, cannot do better than achieving the message of khadi to its fullest extent. It is not a small thing for you and me to take part in an effort to save sixty crores of rupees. You and I cannot pack the Councils, Assembly and Municipalities. Even if we would, we could not have all the qualifications. But every one of us is born with the qualification for khadi. It requires not much training except the training of the heart. By doing khadi work you will find that the power is descending upon you.

Charm of Chicacole

CHICACOLE, as Srikakulam district was once known, is a land of beautiful hills and valleys. The coconut plantations of Uddanam, and the lush green cashew plantations of Barua beckon nature lovers to feast on the scenic beauty of the district, described as mini-Kerala. The picturesque and golden beaches of Kalingapatnam, Shivasagar and Barua leave tourists mesmerised.
The Kalingapatnam beach was once a seaport for the East India Company. It has a lighthouse of yesteryear, which is still used. The place is also endowed with rivers and a beautiful coastline and is home to ancient temples and heritage buildings of the French and the British. Srikakulam was once part of the Kalinga dynasty, and a large number of people from Orissa and West Bengal visit the district. Buddhist sites at Salihundam and Danthapuram attract the devout from Japan, China and Korea every year. Srikurmam, Srimukhalingam, Arasavalli and Ravivalasa are among the famous Hindu pilgrim centres in Andhra Pradesh.
Ponduru village, famous for its khadi products, shot into prominence after Mahatma Gandhi appreciated the work of the Ponduru weavers during his visit to the region. Gandhi ordered dhotis from Ponduru for his personal use. He even mentioned the virtues of Ponduru khadi in Young India, a national weekly he edited. The place has since become a tourist destination and khadi lovers. Khadi products from Ponduru are exported to various countries, including the United States, Japan, Sweden and Denmark.
In Budithi village, artisans create medals, mementos, idols and other utility articles out of bronze and other alloys. Thousands of artisans are engaged in the Budithi craft, which has created a niche for itself in the national and international market. Another delight for nature lovers is the Telineelapuram village, the seasonal resort for painted storks from Siberia. The villagers protect them from poachers.
The sun god is worshipped in the Suryanarayana Swamy temple at Arasavalli. It is 3.5 km from Srikakulam town. The temple dates back to the 7th century A.D. and a Kalinga king is said to have constructed it. It is built in such a way that the early morning rays of the sun fall on the feet of the deity twice a year, in February and June even when the five entrance gates are closed. The idol depicts the sun god on a chariot. The image, made of black granite, flanked by Usha and Chhaya, is 5 feet tall. Padmapani is the name of this deity – padma stands for wisdom and Usha and Chhaya represent eternity. The head is crowned by the serpent Adisesha.
At the Srikurmam temple, the image of a tortoise as an incarnation of Vishnu is worshipped. Famed for its architectural beauty, the temple has over 200 pillars and many inscriptions in Devanagiri script dating from the 11th century A.D. to the 19th century A.D. It has huge five-storeyed gopurams built in the South Indian style.
The paintings on the wall resemble those at the Ajanta caves. Interestingly, within the temple complex is a small shrine where the footprints of Chaitanya, a social reformer of Bengal, are worshipped.
Salihundam village, 18 km from Srikakulam on the banks of the river Vamsadhara, became famous when excavations unearthed stupas, chaityas, platforms and viharas dating back to the 2nd century A.D. They throw light on the existence of an ancient Buddhist settlement. It was from Salihundam that the message of Buddhism spread to Sumatra and other eastern countries. Srimukhalingam, also located on the banks of the Vamsadhara, is the site of the Srimukhalingeswara (Siva) temple. Built in the 9th century A.D. by the Eastern Ganga kings, it is considered one of the finest examples of Kalinga architecture.
The Sangam temple, 56 km from Srikakulam, is at the confluence of the Nagavalli, the Swarnamukhi and the Vegavati rivers and hence its name. One of the five lingas of Sangameswara is here. On the day of Maha Sivaratri, thousands of devotees throng the temple. Mahasivaratri is celebrated with fanfare every year also at the Mahendragiri temple at Mandasa, which is 26 km from Sompet.
Barua, a fishing and coastal port about 109 km from Srikakulam, is set amidst lush coconut groves and paddy fields. The famous Kotilingeswara Swamy and Janardanaswamy temples are in Barua.
